How to Order Books

Payment, Postage & Shipping Arrangements

Orders can be made by Phone, E-Mail, or Letter.

  • Telephone: 0044 1225 463552.
  •
  • Shipping and postal charges are additional, at cost; and are no longer individually detailed for each individual title, as UK postage rates are subject to continual change (sadly, usually upwards!)
  • Once you submit your order, we will advise you as to the current postage options and costs, which will depend upon the number of books ordered, the delivery addressand the delivery service you require (i.e. Royal Mail 1st class/ 2nd class, Signed for/ tracked/ international, or via private courier, etc., etc.) and we will then supply an invoice for the total amount due. If you can specify your preferred postage and shipping requiremnts when you submit you order, that would be very helpful, and will speed the whole process.
  • A large order of multiple books, mailed together, will normally attract a somewhat reduced postage rate; and any such savings will automatically will be deducted from the shipping costs. If you intend to pay for a large order by cheque or bank transfer; then please obtain a specific postage quote, before dispatching payment.
  • Payment for all orders is normally by Paypal , Sterling cheque, or B.A.C.S. (direct bank transfer).
  • Orders are normally dispatched within one working day of receipt of payment. Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic disruptions, as the UK is in repeated lockdowns, there may occasionally be some slight delays in dispatch, however you will be kept fully informed of any such possible disruptions, and advised once your order has actually been dispatched.
  •
  • Important note: we now no longer accept payment by credit/debit cards.
  •
  • All book prices are in Pounds Sterling; and payments will normally be debited in Sterling.
  •
  • Alternative Payment Options. If for any reason, you are unable or unwilling to pay by Paypal, or bank transfer, then we can accept payment by sterling cheque, against a pro-forma invoice. The goods will be dispatched only after the cheque has been fully cleared.
  •
  • To order or pay by post: please contact us first, by email or phone, and specify the titles your require and the delivery address. We will then confirm availability, and quote the precise total cost, to including shipping charges, You can then send your order enclosing a Sterling cheque, made payable to: 'H. Rayner'. addressed to:
  • Pagoda Tree Press, 4 Malvern Buildings, Fairfield Park, Bath BA1 6JX, England;
  • Orders will normally be dispatched within 1 working day of the cheque being fully cleared.
  •

We will require the following information in order to process Paypal orders:

A valid email address, linked to your Paypal account. We will then send you a Paypal invoice directly

Full Contact Information: full name and shipping address; telephone and /or fax number.

  • We are also happy to answer any further queries you may have about our publications.
  • You can call directly by phone or fax, on the following UK number: 0044 1225 463552.

  • Please Note: We are a small, home-based business,  so please only telephone us between the hours of 09.00 and 18.00 hrs GMT; as we don’t like being woken up, even to take an order, at 3 am!!  If we are out of the office, then the answering machine is invariably on, and you can securely leave orders on that)
  • If you feel that these forms of payment are impracticable for you, then we can also accept payment by Sterling Cheque or Bank Draft, drawn on a UK bank; by direct bank transfer, or even by International Postal Order
  •
  • Important Note:
  • All cheques, postal orders and money transfers etc. must be made made payable to: H. Rayner
  •
  • If you wish to pay by direct bank transfer; please advise us so, and we will send IBAN and NIC account numbers.

SHIPPING:

  •     Wherever possible, we normally ship orders within one working day of payment being received. This is not always possible, especially at weekends and during holiday periods, and has been exacerbated by the current pandemic; however, you will be notified of any potential delay in shipping, at the time of ordering.
  •
  • Orders are normally shipped by Royal Mail postal services, unless shipping by a specific courier is requested. We normally use Fedex for courier shipments.
  •
  • Books will normally be sent by the most economical means possible, unless we are instructed to the contrary.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: WE NO LONGER SHIP BOOKS INTERNATIONALLY BY SURFACE MAIL, DUE TO THE INCREASINGLY POOR DELIVERY TIMES AND UNRELIABLE SERVICE OFFERED BY ROYAL MAIL  POSTAL SERVICES.
  • BOOKS ARE NOW ONLY SHIPPED BY AIRMAIL POST, OR BY COURIER.

FURTHER IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please do not order anything, unless you fully intend to complete your purchase!

Sadly, we receive rather too many orders from people, indulging themselves in vicarious retail therapy, who have no serious intention of actually buying anything!, but order books and then, for whatever reason, upon actually receiving a pro-forma invoice, then fail, to either cancel, or pay for their order!

Therefore, please note that any material ordered: Books, Maps or Prints, will be reserved for a maximimum of seven days after the issuance of a Pro-forma Invoice. If payment has not been received by the end of this period, the order will be automatically cancelled, and the goods returned to stock.

If, for whatsoever reason, you decide not to proceed with your order, after receiving a pro-forma invoice; then, as you are fully entitled to, by all means, please contact us to cancel the order, forthwith, and without prejudice. A reminder will be sent after 5 days, but if no payment, or further response at all, is received, clients will be blacklisted from doing any business with us in the future.

Any customers who may have difficulties arranging immediate payment, (such as organising bank transfers or credit card payments from the Indian sub-continent etc.) should advise us of this as soon as possible, and special arrangements can usually be made.

No order will be shipped until payment has been received in full.

EBAY Sales

We do now also offer some of our titles (though not all of them), for sale on Ebay; solely on a 'buy it now' basis. This should make it easer for some customers to place orders instantly and to pay via Paypal.
